“Brace yourself for a truth about our rising energy prices, the climate crisis and big fat profits. Look, they are robbing us and they are killing us” Chris Packham
Speakers(1) at the “We all Want to Just Stop Oil” zoom event on August 2nd, Tuesday evening at 7pm will be calling for a mass popular response to the crises facing us – Cost of Living crisis, Racial and Social Injustice and the Climate Crisis. Register here http://buff.ly/3cQOTIO
Chris Packham – renowned wildlife expert, Jeremy Corbyn – former Labour Party Leader, Chantelle Lunt anti racist, feminist and human rights activist, Lee Jasper, London politician and race relations activist, Professor Bill McGuire – Professor Emeritus of Geophysical and Climate Hazards, University College London and Zoe Cohen, climate activist, educator and spokesperson with XR, Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil will all be sharing a platform.
The event follows the mass march in central London on July 23rd (2) which saw the coalition start to build.
What unites the speakers and the movements they represent, is their concern about ordinary people – rising numbers of people who can’t pay their bills, teenagers who can’t see a liveable future, people from marginalised communities and women in all communities who take the brunt of the climate and cost of living crisis.
Climate collapse will mean the end of workers rights, women’s rights, all human rights. It is already the greatest injustice visited on the global south in human history. It is time to put everything aside, it’s either survival solidarity now or collective failure.
Jeremy Corbyn, former leader of the labour party, founder of the Peace and Justice Project and long term campaigner on a whole host of social justice issues internationally said:
“We have to take matters into our own hands. That’s what we’ve always done to win change. Movements are the motor of change in history. When we come together, we can and will transform the world and we must, because those in power, the fossil fuel giants, the governments and the billionaires they own, are picking our pockets and stealing our future.”
Chantelle Lunt, anti racist, feminist and human rights activist said:
“For me personally, activism is such an inspirational space because it is usually women and women of colour who are at the forefront of it. That’s just so powerful.”
Professor Bill McGuire, scientist, broadcaster, writer and activist said
“Global heating is translating into extreme weather far more rapidly than predicted. On the plus side, maybe this will make people sit up and take notice sooner than otherwise.”
Zoe Cohen, climate activist, educator and spokesperson with Extinction Rebellion, Insulate Britain and now Just Stop Oil said:
“We’ve just seen 40C degrees in the UK for the first time in history, and at the same time millions more people are being made poorer, hungrier and more desparate than ever – all caused by the same growth obsessed, fossil fuel addicted, billionaire benefitting system, enabled by our Government. This is the same Government that is planning 40 new fossil fuel projects by 2025. We must come together and stop them – we have no choice.”
Join us to find out why and how Just Stop Oil, in collaboration with Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace & Justice Project and many other groups, is mobilising across the UK for mass civil resistance.
This Autumn, thousands of people from all walks of life will be demanding change by undertaking civil disobedience. Will you join us? Will you support us?
