Leaked letter reveals Rishi Sunak wants to negotiate in secret with Just Stop Oil.

A leaked letter from UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Just Stop Oil shows he is willing to negotiate with the civil resistance group in secret to avoid losing face. [1] [2]

Dated 31st of March, the letter is the latest in correspondence between Just Stop Oil, Rishi Sunak and Climate Minister, Graham Stuart which began after youth representatives of Just Stop Oil issued a written ultimatum to the Government on 14th of February 2023.

In the letter, Sunak states a shared agreement on the “need and urgency of tackling the climate crisis” and accepts current positions are “unsustainable” saying he is open to negotiation and hopeful of “an agreement regarding future protests”.

A Just Stop Oil spokesperson said: “Licensing new oil and gas threatens the lives of ordinary people both abroad at the front lines of climate change and here in the UK. It is an act of domestic terrorism, and we don’t negotiate with terrorists. Revoke the licenses. There is no discussion”.
