Statement on the Offshore Petroleum Licensing Bill

The passing of the Offshore Petroleum Licensing Bill’s second reading is the latest attempt to make oil barons rich while the 99% suffer devastating consequences. Storms are already making our homes unsafe. Fires, floods, and famines are the direct consequence of oil drilling. Millions are starving globally. The criminals in Parliament are responsible for this genocide. It’s been proven that exploiting more North Sea Oil will leave us poorer, less secure, and facing energy blackouts.

To all the Labour MPs who voted against the bill this evening: we’ll be holding you to this. The people want safety, security, and a liveable future. Ending new oil and gas is the only way to make this possible.
